Today’s Reflection
I can look back on each decade of my life and identify significant new friends who have continued to challenge me in my discipleship and to teach me. I see all of these people as God’s instruments. From Robert, whose comment, “I think you’ve already decided what you want, so you’re not listening for what God wants,” led me to change careers, to Joan and Velma whose rule, “You can’t take on any more commitments this year until you talk to us about them and we say it’s okay,” led me to focus my energy, God has used my close friends to guide me and lead me into fuller life and deeper discipleship.

Prayer for the Week
Loving God, be near me as I recall events from my life. Guide me to look at my past with forgiveness and love. Help me to accept where I am in my life journey and to recognize ways you have been present with me all along. Thank you for your unconditional love and for the strength you give me each day. Amen.

God has placed people in my path who have made a significant impact on me. I think of my friend since my early teens – who mentored me and discipled me hard, without seeing much fruit. Right on the doorstep of my spiritual growth spurt she moved across the country, unable to witness fruit from the seeds she so faithfully planted and tended. She prayed hard for a new friend to enter my life – and my friend with the dogs is that person. She discipled me through my growth spurt and is my friend with whom I do the book study. This summer she will go with me to my friend’s (1st one mentioned) cabin in Montana where I can only imagine the conversations and adventures we will have. They are only a year apart in age. My best friend – we shared faith 30+ years ago when we met – but neither of us had matured into it yet. Then, subtly over the past 5ish years – we have grown together on our faith walks, and now attend church together at times. We speak of our faith and encourage each other in our walks. My new tennis friend, we continue to grow our relationship and I continue to ask God to soften her heart and look forward to the opportunity to continue to demonstrate my faith to her.
The cardiologist sees no reason to restrict dad’s driving at this time. His “episodes” have occurred while he is standing. He is to continue to closely monitor his blood pressure, pulse ox and heart rate daily and report those numbers in two weeks. Hydration was also emphasized.
He and I played golf and had dinner outside. It was a lovely day.
To be quite honest, I don’t have life long close friends. I count NEM friends from my time with The Upper Room (16 years), my Bible/book study friends (5 years), and friends at church (7 years) as the closest Christian friends . My faith has been supported, sustained, and grown through them. While i had a big boost while a member of a Korean UMC some years ago, sadly I learned that church is now a Global Methodist Church. I’m very thankful that CCUMC has a dynamic, full of God’s love, energetic pastor. We are blessed. Thank You, Lord
Thankful Jill’s Dad is doing well after his episode. Having such deep faith long friendships is a grand blessing. Blessed be the Tie that Binds.
