Today’s Reflection
One of the ways in which we have found community is the sharing of story. Sometimes it is the sharing of a specific story or a common experience of survival that has bound us together. We repeat those stories as a way to cement social bonds and to share with other people and generations those community-binding experiences. We have preserved those stories that have significant meaning to us, and by that selective preservation we tell others about our values.
We create stories that reflect our values, thereby preserving those values through our new stories.

Stories of perseverance. Stories of His steadfast love. Stories of being sustained by Scripture and His people. These are the common threads I have witnessed in my small groups, my cancer support groups and now the GriefShare group. We mustn’t waver from proclaiming His goodness in the midst of hardships. We mustn’t deny His permitting struggles in our paths…we must seek to allow Him to draw us closer to Himself. Though tears flow, they can be cleansing and ultimately promote growth.
Very much looking forward to the activities of this weekend. This morning I am going to my school’s girls volleyball match. Two of my students are on playing, one of which is the young lady who watches my kittens for me. She will be looking in on them the first day or two following my surgery as I stay with a friend.
My dearest friend, who is finally emerging (however slowly) from the darkness of the pit of her divorce and trauma, and I are going to a local monthly farmers market type of thing. One of the vendors is a fresh cut flower farm which she goes to frequently – to cut her own dahlia bouquets and pet goats. It should be a very nice time together. This evening – I am going to my tennis friend’s house – she is fixing dinner and we are going to watch the US Open women’s final. We haven’t seen each other since before I went to Florida. What a good day I have ahead of me.
Stories which give signs of the Holy Spirit at work !!!
Hello all, I’m starting with yesterday’s question about OT stories. I love the book of Esther and the story of how God used Esther to protect God’s people from evil.
Our faith community whethered a storm several years ago. It involved scandal and many families left us. By God’s grace we are still here. Smaller in number, but in a better place than we were then. We are better off. Almost every member is involved in ministry to others. Our Bible studies are illuminating and our pastor exhorts us to discipleship and Justice. Our congregation is inclusive and welcoming. We try to embody love in all things. Our mission is to be a light in our community that points to Christ.
I’m enjoying my job and David has progressed so well in PT, they are working with him on more advanced things. Please pray for the situation wirh his ex taking him to court. We need much prayer over this.
Praying all is well with Robert. Love to all.
