Today’s Reflection
Whatever is worrying you today, no matter how mundane or how personal, how big or how small, it is not your concern. If you have given your life over to God, you have also given over everything in your life. It’s no longer your problem—it’s God’s.
Trust in Jesus’ words. Believe them for what they are: a call to put your mind where your faith is.
—Patricia Wilson, Freedom from Worry: 28 Days of Prayer (Upper Room Books, 2013)

Today’s Scripture
He said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.”
—Luke 12:22-23 (NRSV)

The worries of this very day – the virus and ensuing level of panic encompassing our nation. So much uncertainty and people hoarding and caring only for themselves. Concern for those in need and those unable to fend for themselves. Tireless health care workers on the very front lines. Family with loved ones in nursing homes, being unable to check in on them and comfort them. Oh, Father – have mercy on us.
Blessed be the tie that binds, our hearts in Christian love.
So many worries for our world and ourselves and our friends and families. A stressful time indeed- not knowing what we should do or how to respond – my daughter who arrived safely home this weekend is still unclear about when she is to return to school as they have not shut down for the school year as some universities have done. She was overwhelmed taking about her worries and she said I don’t know what to do and you are my mom and you can’t even tell me what to do because you don’t know. How very right she was- and I was struck again by the enormity of my responsibility in trying to help my own three children navigate this difficult time while not really knowing what to do myself. I can pray to the Lord for guidance and strength and I just continue to do my best and remain calm for them. My son continues to struggle with several issues that I am assisting him with but it will be a process that will take some time. He has had a string of circumstances that are weighing him down and he feels like the world is against him. It is so difficult to see your children sad and upset. That in addition to the stress of the virus on all of us. There is a Pandemic Prayer by Dr. Bellm of Seattle that I found helpful – perhaps some of you will too. Please pray for my son to have peace and patience with his struggles, for my youngest for answers regarding her school term, and for my middle daughter as her school closes until the end of April – prayers for guidance and direction. I’m praying for you all as we face these trying times – May God protect us all. Peace, Hope and Love.
Prayed the Pandemic Prayer by Dr. Bellm of Seattle, for your son to have peace and patience with his struggles, my son’s struggles continue, he is still working toward a solution. I’m recovering from a cold
Slow going with a faulty keyboard. “May God protect us all. Peace, Hope and Love.” Thank You, Lord.
Financial worries about the loss in value of investments.Ten days ago I was in great shape. What a difference 10 days make in a bear market! God will take care of us!
My concerns echo those shared above. Megan and I had a relatively normal day yesterday, movie and eating out. But store shelves are bare and I also am dismayed by the hoarding and lack of concern for others. My friend’s husband manages a nursing home and he is dealing with multiple stressors, not least of which are the relatives of those in his care. I pray for all here and for those who do not have the resources to purchase food or pay for childcare, those who are out of work due to closings and healthcare workers who are indanger from the disease they are helping to fight. May we all help one another and be kind to everyone. God bless us and He will help us get through this. It is up to us to do so as true disciples of Christ.
Our church had a similar prayer yesterday and it too centered around thinking of the world instead of oneself. I am pasting it here for easy reference:
Prayer for a Pandemic
By Cameron Bellm
May we who are merely inconvenienced
Remember those whose lives are at stake.
May we who have no risk factors
Remember those most vulnerable.
May we who have the luxury of working from home
Remember those who must choose between preserving their health or making their rent.
May we who have the flexibility to care for our children when their schools close
Remember those who have no options.
May we who have to cancel our trips
Remember those that have no safe place to go.
May we who are losing our margin money in the tumult of the economic market
Remember those who have no margin at all.
May we who settle in for a quarantine at home
Remember those who have no home.
As fear grips our country,
let us choose love.
During this time when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other,
Let us yet find ways to be the loving embrace of God to our neighbors.
Amen.
Worry….I have a devotional sentence or two that deals with that. It reminds me that God is in control and thus I do not need to worry. If I should be tempted to worry, capture it and give it up to God, He will take care of it. In silence and complete trust is my strength.
May we be a people of prayer, that powerful act that God provides for us as we live in this uncertain world with problems. Be not afraid, I have overcome the world…John 16:33.
Thank you for your wisdom. “Be not afraid, I have overcome the world.” Thank you, April.
May all be protected from the virus. God’s order is a divine order. God is with us and will never leave nor forsake us.
Lowell and I are both elderly and have health challenges. We started social distancing last week. We had a car accident two weeks ago, totaling our car when a deer ran out of a deep ditch and hit it. We were out of town in a rural area when it happened, which complicated things. We have another car, but yesterday some lights came on the dashboard indicating it needed maintenance. So we drove it to the dealer and waited in the waiting area for and hour and a half while it was fixed. I was worried about our exposure in public. It helped me come to terms with how I need to continually come back to trusting God. Whatever happens, God’s arms are there to hold us, support us, give us the strength we need. May we return over and over to that certain comfort. My God give protect you and guide you each day through the uncertainty and challenges ahead, dear friends.
