New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

When Jesus asked the disciples what they were looking for, his question demonstrated once and for all that God is concerned and interested in our desires. Clearly God does not want us to ignore our longings, push them aside, or put them to death. Indeed, the exact opposite is true. God wants us to listen to the desires of our hearts, to befriend them, to understand them, and then to ask for what we want. Whatever our longings may be, God really is interested.

Today’s Scripture

In the path of your judgments,
O LORD, we wait for you;
your name and your renown

    Prayers and talks with God while walking in the woods are the spiritual practices I use. Thankful that God knows my thoughts before I know them. Another overcast, cool, low humidity very comfortable day. Thank You, Lord. ZOOM worship is at 10:30.
    Ida coming ashore soon, sure hope everyone has evacuated as this hurricane is expected to be one of the worst in over 150 years. Prayers for safety. Prayers to for successful evacuations in Afghanistan. Hopeful, very cautiously, that life there will not return to the type of rule seen in the 1990s. Encouragement based on the actions of those in power is very much needed. Peace, the protection of human rights, prosperity, and brotherhood amongst the nations of the world are all desired. When they come God will be pleased.

    Listening to God: getting in a place where I can hear Gods voice so I can try to insure that my desires are in line with what God wants for me. I’m thankful for God’s grace because what I want isn’t always what God wants for me. This grace gets my heart right.
    My cousin Brad is home following open heart surgery and doing pretty well. He is walking 2 miles a day, but is still recovering full speech abilities. His neurologist recommended that he read aloud and sing. As a music therapist, I’m so happy he’s using this intervention. Gabby Giffords’ treatment plan included work with a music therapist, who sang with her to help her recover her speech. Singing is also good therapy for heart patients. Praise God for Brad’s recovery. Thanks to everyone for your prayers.
    Robert, I am agreeing with you in prayer for those in Ida’s path and for peace in Afghanistan. Thank you for your wisdom and insight. Praying for healing of your relationship with Erich and progress in therapy. Julie, I hope you and Megan are enjoying the Carnegie museums. Still praying for justice and fairness in your divorce process. Also for your eye appointments. Jill, praying for a negative test for Larry and for Healing and effective treatments for whatever is making him sick. Praying for your and your students at school. Prayers for little Roger and that his new diet is helping. Prayers for Lou and her daughter, for daughter’s mental health treatment and for her healing. I pray all who visit stay safe and find ways to connect with God. Blessings to all on this, the Lord’s Day.

    My current practice is going through the Psalm I am memorizing for the month – and breaking it down – a phrase or a sentence at a time – and praying that verse over and over – inserting requests which are on my heart. I don’t want to be memorizing for the sake of memorizing and checking something off a list. I want the Word implanted and I want it to make a difference. I want it to feed me, nourish me. And I want to linger there, tasting and savoring. This will help align my desires with what He would have me desire.
    Encouraging news, Ally – thanks for sharing about Brad.
    Roger seems to have a settled stomach for several days now, and I am less on edge about it. I seemed to have found some good seafood varieties in broths, as well as his chicken in broth. He loves the seafood – and I just placed a larger order to be delivered later this week.
    A pretty big storm rolled through here a while ago, briefly knocking out my power. The temp has dropped and I am hoping to get a walk in this evening, provided the storms have moved on.
    I can get caught up watching the hurricane coverage on tv. I simply can’t imagine that type of devastation. May all the first responders work well together and have safety.
    Good to be in church. The pastor affirmed for us that we will continue to have the first service be masked required through at least the end of November. I was very happy to hear this.
    Provided dad’s covid test is confirmed false tomorrow, he plans on coming over for dinner. I will pick up some favorites from a BBQ place by my school. He is hoping to golf in the morning, provided he feels well and it is not raining.
    I appreciate your faithfulness in praying for my dear ones.
