New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

We are who we are because of our relationships. We know and feel how important relationships are to us, because there is nothing more painful to us than a strained or broken relationship, except the death of a loved one. Our theological worldview is deeply relational and, for Christians, our relationships are not limited by boundaries of nation-states or tribes, or any other walls. All our boundaries are trumped by our baptism into this relationship with God and neighbor.

Today’s Scripture

You are one body and one spirit, just as God also called you in one hope. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of all, who is over all, through all, and in all.
—Ephesians 4:4-6 (CEB)

Prayer for the Week

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love.

There are several factors that help me connect to God . Perhaps the most important is experience, but that only cam after a long journey of varying exposure from childhood to age 50. when a very special 19 week period made a huge difference. One on one with a pastor and a Campus Crusade for Christ study I was reborn
That wouldn’t have happened without the events the preceded it. My wife and I returned to attending services at a Korean UMC, two months later, she unexpectedly passed away. I attended services in English one week and Korean the next. The pattern was interrupted. I decided to continue at the Korean language service, became a member there and the one on one meetings began. The saying that God works in mysterious ways is certainly true. I was a member there for 10 years. I returned to services in English when I moved to be able to help my sister care did our mother. Since then there have been other experiences.
Sadly the Lay Servant class three of us signed up for has been cancelled since two others could not commit to attending all five meetings. We are searching for another class. Think we may have found one. Should know soon.
Off in an adventure with my son today. Hope to see waterfalls and have a nice lunch. Have had ran for two days the waterfalls should be great.
Prayers for Jill, Larry,, Becky, Julie, Megan, H, Ally&David, April and her loved one, Rick, Scott, Lou, her children, and Mom as well as all the NEM family. Prayers for all suffering because natural disasters made worse by climate change, may the hungry, homeless, injured receive what they need, wars stop, nuclear reactors be shielded. schools be safe, and elections be fair. Lord, there is so much need for You. Thank You for Your ever presence.

Prayer helps me connect to the Lord.
I called the counselor yesterday prior to our session and explained the unique situation between h and I as well as the scamming incident. During the session between the three of us I was brutally honest about how difficult being “nice” to h is for me given 25 years of his abuse. I am amazed at how blind he is to his past actions. He lamented that his sister never calls him and I related that he has had nothing but animosity towards her for the entire time I have known him. He has said repeatedly that he hates her and she is nothing but a money “grubber.” who took advantage of his mother. Yet he still seemed stymied that now that he is sick she has not contacted him. He is incapable of seeing how his past actions now impact his present isolation.
Prayers for Ally, may she heal quickly and her pain be relieved. Prayers for Jill and her students. Prayers for Lou and her family. Prayers for a wonderful day together for Robert and Erich.

I need to be in consistent communication with God, in His word and prayer – this keeps me connected. To be truly connected to another requires honesty, time and vulnerability. This is what has enabled me to make a deep bond with my tennis friend.
Speaking of her – the sisters are hosting a celebration of life this Friday for the family and a few friends. I imagine she is busy making preparations. She is also the executor of her mom’s estate. They are trying to sell her condo. One of her cousins is coming in from Atlanta tomorrow and will be staying with my friend. She is looking forward to spending time with her.
School is going well. Busy, for sure – but going well. Tonight is the first meeting of our small group. Just catching up and preparing for our study. It will be good to see these ladies – we will be online again. Advantages and disadvantages.
