Today’s Reflection
If you have hired day laborers yourself, you know how hard it is to see so many people lined up hoping for work. Some lean down to look in your car and make eye contact, while others drop their heads so they don’t have to watch you judge them. It’s not like they can afford to be choosy. They are there to be chosen, not to choose.
The kingdom of heaven opens when the landowner nods at some of them. You, you, and you. However hard the work, this is good news. Tonight their families will eat.

Today’s Question
What do you think about the landowner paying the same amount to the day laborers who started work at the end of the day as he paid to the laborers who had worked all day? Join the conversation.
Today’s Scripture
When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his manager, “Call the laborers and give them their pay, beginning with the last and then going to the first.” When those hired about five o’clock came, each of them received a denarius. Now when the first came, they thought they would receive more; but each of them also received a denarius.
—Matthew 20:8-10 (NRSV)

I think the landowner has a right to do what he wants with his pay for the laborers. They all have to eat, take care of their families. Everyone agreed to the wage they were offered. I think the landowner was very God-like.
Cooler days, still had a walk, met a friend, and had discussions with Erich and Jenny. Thank You,
Lord.
I’m with Robert on this. The landowner did not deviate from his word.
A friend brought by some wonderful coffee this morning and a huge bag of ice, for my ice machine. I did a fair amount of grading, got a nap in. My friend came over and grilled out – I have another meal from the leftovers. Tomorrow I will begin freezing what is in my fridge. Watching some football. Will take in the Ohio State – Notre Dame game, but doubt I will make it to halftime without falling asleep.
It was wonderful to finally take a shower. I thought I would go to church tomorrow – but I am just too uncomfortable sitting. So, will watch from home. I think I will take my colleague up on her offer to take me to and from work. Even 15 minutes of driving seems incomprehensible right now. Maybe by midweek.
Cooler days and evenings here as well. Kittens love having the windows open and me here around the clock. I must say I enjoy it as well.
