New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Genuinely compassionate action for enemies, even those who harm us, grows as we imagine ourselves sharing in Jesus’s experience of offering compassion even as he suffered. We experience what Jesus experiences. The Christian spiritual traditions describe this as becoming the image of Christ or entering into union with God. Although many people have thought of “union with God” as disengaging from life in the world, Christian compassion practices show the opposite: The deeper the union with God, the more deeply we engage life in the world, offering compassion even to those we experience as enemies. Through that compassion, enemies become reconciled, “in peace” with one another.

—Andrew Dreitcer, Living Compassion: Loving Like Jesus (Upper Room Books, 2017)

Today’s Scripture

“But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.”

This is so very true – as we grow in Christ – we should not become disengaged from the world. What should happen is that the things of this world should no longer have a pull on us, or as strong of a pull on us. But the PEOPLE of this world will be a priority – as we extend His love and grace towards them. Our desires for things of the world are disengaged, but our love for people is ignited.
Dad and I enjoyed a final weekday of golf yesterday morning. School begins Monday. We will take advantage of good weather on the weekends as long as is possible and continue to golf. He will golf with his buddies a couple times during the week – I am glad he will be able to do this.
Julie – continuing to pray for things at home. May you and Megan be safe, both now and in the days ahead.
I began my new treatment last night, as my doctor had samples in her office. We are assuming my insurance will approve this medication, so getting a jump start on it. I was relieved she didn’t ask me to remain on my current one. She said we will give this one three months, and if the side effects are too much, we will try something else. This drug is in the same “family” as the one I just got off of. It had brought such tremendous relief to my joints that she said it was her best recommendation to try this one – with hopes of continued relief and fewer side effects. I appreciate your continued prayers, UR family.

Yes. the people of this world are important, they owe their existence to God whether they are our friends or enemies, whether they believe in God or not. My son is a primary concern. He reminds me often of his belief that my faith, the Bible, God and all religion is superstition. He says, and I agree, that he doesn’t understand it,

Thankful that Jill and her Dad have been able to golf so much, prayers the new medication does what is needed and there are few, if any, side effects.

Needed parts have arrived, progress continues. It is a great joy to see models come to completion.

Continued prayers for the safety of Julie and Megan, prayers to for “h”. We all are in need of prayer, we all fall short. Thank You, Lord, for doing for us what we can’t do for ourselves, help us to be all we can be.

I have compassion for many, but as a flawed human, I cannot have compassion for some. I can have compassion for some who have done horrible things to me, but not all. I know this is an obstacle for my growth but am unable currently to embrace this mindset.
H has sent the divorce paperwork to his lawyer, for the full story see my comment on Friday. My future is uncertain, but I have a great lawyer. Prayers would be appreciated. Thank you for “listening.”
Prayers for Jill, may the new medication be effective with fewer side effects. Prayers also as you begin a new school year.
Prayers for Robert and Erich. I have related you situation to Megan and she is incredulous that Erich acts as he does. She also does not share my belief, yet she doesn’t denigrate it or me. I have raised her to have her own beliefs and to relie on her own understanding to draw conclusions in all situations. But I have also emphasized that every person is entiltled to their own beliefs and even if they differ from ours we must respect the person and their beliefs. I am pleased she seems to have internalized this attitude. I am aware she could have easily eschewed tolerance.
Prayers, thank you and stay well dear UR
