New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Welcome! You are embarking on a journey that will introduce you to a new way of connecting with God. Protestant prayer beads are a prayer tool that can help you experience God’s presence, increase your focus and comfort level in prayer, and be still and know God’s love for you.

While many types of prayer beads exist, we designed the devotions and meditations in this book for use with Protestant prayer beads.

—Kristen E. Vincent and Max O. Vincent, Another Bead, Another Prayer: Devotions to Use with Protestant Prayer Beads (Upper Room Books, 2014)

Today’s Question

What tools have you used to help you pray? (Example: prayer ropes, prayer sticks, etc.) Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

When I look up at your skies, at what your fingers
made—the moon and the stars that you set firmly in
place—what are human beings that you think about
them; what are human beings that you pay attention
to them?
—Psalm 8:3-4 (NRSV)

Prayer for the Week

Pray the following prayer as you touch the cross, invitatory bead, and resurrection beads on a set of Protestant prayer beads.

Holy God, heaven and earth are filled with your glory.
Let my praise be united with that of
the angels as we proclaim that
you are holy, holy, holy. Amen.

Submit your prayer to The Upper Room.

Something More

A generation ago, The Godbearing Life charted a new course for youth ministry to fuel the faith both of young people and the adults who minister with them. The Revised Edition now offers a new generation of church leaders the same depth of spiritual wisdom while addressing the profound shifts in society and ministry over the past twenty-five years. I have not used any tool to assist praying.
We had a lot of wind and snow all night. The snowplow went by our house several times. Our street is rarely plowed because I live in a plan so our streets are not thru roads. Of course I need to go to the doctor’s today for a checkup. I remember my doctor saying he knew I have trouble being out in cold weather so he made my appointment in March because “by then the weather should be getting better.” Can’t wait to have a laugh with him about this!

I don’t use any tools to pray .
Wet snow here, I did go out and snowshoe on an introd trail. Here and there I sank in deep, but fork the most part it was all about the same. Still doing the computer shake down adjusting, connecting, to make things work Hope Julie made it to the doctor. March begins like a lion and ends like a lamb. Long time Nee England saying. Mud season comes next. Sugaring conditions have been excellent. Lenten blessings.

The only thing which comes to mind…wouldn’t necessarily call it a “tool”…would be praying out loud. It’s been quite a while since I have done this.
Yesterday was an exhausting day and I slept poorly overnight. When I did sleep, I had crazy dreams. Will be retiring early this evening.
My friend who is going through a disillusionment is going to be spending some time with me each week. She and her soon to be ex are keeping the house and rotating in and out of it so as not to uproot their son. However – this does not seem sustainable for 2+ years until he graduates from high school. They had been rotating in and out of my sister’s house, but Becky and Don are coming home tomorrow. So – I convinced her to at least do a trial run here. I am working on clearing out my extra bedroom – basically a storage place for me. She is going to bring in a twin bed for the room. I have some cleaning to do and started on it when I got home from school today.
I have my ultrasound tomorrow morning – and will report to school for my afternoon classes.

I have not used prayer beads, but am intrigued by the idea. Very cold here in middle GA for March. Saturday, our temps were in the 80s. I can’t believe the difference. David is progressing in therapy and has been re-certified for home health, with a goal of graduating to a cane. His biggest obstacle is fear of falling. Hopefully, as he practices use of the cane, he will feel more confident. I have started a work from home business and ask for your prayers that I can be successful. Prayers for my friends here. Stay warm, everyone.
