New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Locate a space outside with peaceful and pleasant surroundings. Set up a hammock or comfortable chair.

Take in the warmth of the sun or the shade of the day with your senses. If you feel a breeze, allow it to caress your body and soothe your soul. …

Silently offer praises to Christ, giving thanks for the gift of rest and renewal.

Be still [for several minutes] and allow God to minister to you in whatever way God chooses.

—Gerrie L. Grimsley & Jane J. Young, Contemplative by Design: Creating Quiet Spaces for Retreats, Workshops, Churches, and Personal Settings (Upper Room Books, 2008)

Today’s Question

How often do you spend time outside simply resting? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

[Jesus said to his disciples] Come away by yourselves,
and we will go to a lonely place to get some rest.

—Mark 6:31 (NCV)

Prayer for the Week

Dear God,
Come now and feed
my body, soul;
come now, infuse
the hungry whole
of me.

Most of the time when I’m outdoors, I’m active, moving, walking and so on. There are brief moments on walks when I stop, pause for a quick rest. I’m very much not one to bask in the sun unless it is a cooler day and certainly no baking on the beach in the summertime. Grew up in often cloudy, overcast weather. Prayers for Scout and especially Lewis. For all the joy cats, kittens bring, there’s also this sad time when we lose them and it hurts. Prayers what is needed can be done so there is no suffering. How about going to an animal shelter? Thankfully through an Adam Hamiltion book and video I’ve seen where the Wesleys arrived, lived, and worked in Georgia. A sad story in many ways, but John came to some great realizations based on his time there and upon his return to England had his heart warmed at Aldersgate. Prayers for well-being, needed finances, and successful P, and help from the psychiatrist. My first best memories of Georgia came every fall when baskets of peaches arrived at the A&P. They were canned or made into peach jam. Fond memories helping Mom do that. And the results were Oh So Good! Glad you had a great time on Simmonds Island.
Safe travels for Jill, glad she was able to be with her Dad and sister on her Dad’s birthday.
Thankful that the Lay Servant class has started, a very crowded ZOOM classroom with 27 people,
but making progress. Am glad to take this class, my memories of Basic Lay Servant and Lay Speaking classes in 2003 are a bit dim since I was not able to use what I learned right away and have been in 5 different churches since then. Need a refresher! Yes, as always, there are prayers for those I met here, but no longer hear from, those whom I have never met, and those who keep sending posts on a regular basis. Thank You, Lord.

It is currently in the 30s and raining. And it has been this type of weather for awhile. So no sitting outside and no sun.
I spent yesterday at a caregivers event meant to celebrate us and help and encourage us to find the time and ways to rest, relax and recharge. It was wonderful and I met many wonderful people.
Prayers for Ally and Lewis and Scout, may all find healing or rest and may a way to a vet visit be found. Prayers for safe travel for Jill. Prayers for Robert as he refreshes his certification with new training.

We have a nice side porch. Good place to rest and renew. I don’t take advantage as often as I should. I need to do this daily, as I always enjoy it.
We are at vet’s with Lewis. He is very sick and getting fluids and will get blood work and a urinalysis. I was sure we would be telling him “so long” today. Still don’t know what’s going to happen and we are trying not to get our hopes up. Please pray for our sweet boy. You are all in my prayers. Thank you for your love and kindness.
