New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

It is as though we are born crying out already for God. With our first breath, before we have even left the womb, we know our source of being. We know whose child we are. Deeper than memory, thicker than blood, stronger even than love, as it is limited by human imagination. The Spirit of our adoption is the one that cries with the newborn child; that weeps with the bereaved parent; that rejoices in tears with the restored family; that baptizes us before we know ourselves with the quickening Spirit of God, so that our souls cry out, “Abba.”

Today’s Scripture

God chose us in Christ to be holy and blameless in God’s presence before the creation of the world. God destined us to be his adopted children through Jesus Christ because of his love.

There have been many moments when I have cried out to God in despair, asking, “God, where are you? I can’t feel You. Do You hear me? See me? ” . My spirit cried out to Holy Spirit. And God in His mercy, sent help. Hagar, the servant of Sarah, cried out to God in despair when she and Ishmael were turned out. God sent an oasis so they would not die of thirst. Hagar called God El Roi: The God Who Sees Me.
Thanks to all for your prayers for us. We are thankful. Know that David and I lift you all to the Lord. Please be safe. Blessings to all.

The Spirit is quite active now, and has been for several years. Yes, He has always been active, but I have not been cognizant. But now, as the Casting Crowns’ song – The Change in Me says – The Spirit is the change in me. Here I am Lord, have Your way – until all that’s left is You. This song got me through mom’s struggle. It was very emotional when the lead female singer sang this at the concert I attended in the Fall after mom’s passing. I have returned to it these past few weeks as I try to help dad through this time of not feeling well.
Speaking of which – dad has cancelled golf tomorrow and plans on calling the doctor first thing – to get in to see him again. Hopefully he will want me and/or my sister to go along with him. He says he can’t really describe it – but he just doesn’t feel himself.
It was so very good to be in church this morning. A wonderful mix of traditional hymns and praise songs and then a guest pastor spoke on suffering well, from James 5. Our pastor is due back from sabbatical in 2 weeks.
Prayers for Ally and David – may this week bring unexpected blessings from Our Father. Thinking of Julie and still quite thrilled she is back in church and experiencing such positivity. Ongoing prayers for Robert and Erich. May Erich listen well. Prayers too for Lou, April and other faithful visitors here.

I’m still responding to the help the Spirit gave me now almost 24 years ago. Several churches later there are still moments when music, the words to a hymn, a passage of scripture, or just a feeling comes to me and I am reconnected. There were people in church today who I only knew from ZOOM and parents of Coast Guard officers. My Dad was in the CG all through WWII.
Have more material to share with my counselor tomorrow morning at 9 am.bSure hope good progress can be made. I’m in the middle between my son and daughter, a very challenging position.
Prayers for Larry, Jill, and Beckly, Julie’s situation, and the challenges faced by Ally & David. Thankful God is always present for everyone of us. Thank You, Lord.
