Today’s Reflection
IN CARING FOR OTHERS we use up a great deal of physical and mental energy. If we do not replenish these limited resources, we run the risk of compassion fatigue. We cannot fulfill our God-given callings to be compassionate human beings in bodies that are constantly neglected and overextended. How we feed, exercise, relax, listen to, and nourish our bodies are matters relevant to faithful discipleship. As Francis of Assisi lay dying, someone asked if he would have changed anything in his ministry. Significantly he responded, “I would have been more kind to my body.”

I listen to worship songs, instrumental music and scriptures in songs which I also like cause God’s word strengthens me.
I also like to have a facial, watch a movie or read a book. Sometimes, I just play the piano.
Thank you God for blessing us with so many ways to relax and rejuvenate!

I don’t know if I have any specific R&R activities. When I am tired I go to sleep.
Prayers that Doris benefitted from chemo yesterday. It was an 8 hour procedure. Prayers too that Meesook is recovering from her disc surgery. Thankful for the blessings of yesterday, little tasks accomplished. Continued prayers for Marcy, Julie, Connie, Betsy, Mary, Lou, Jill and Larry, Andrea and Lowell that needs are met. Thank You, Lord.
1 take a deep breath–2 count to 10–3 meditate/pray–4 personally devote–5 retreat–6 renew 7 plan periods of renewal ………….led. PS. Stop-Look-Listen-Learn-Try-Love more intentionally.
I exercise and watch what I eat, I am a vegetarian. I pet the kittens and read.
Prayers for Robert and Erich, may they draw near to one another and listen to each other with ears of love and compassion. Robert, from reading your posts I would say that you find walking in nature, working with trains and eating good meals, often ethnic in nature, to be rejuvenating. Do you like the New England Patriots?
Prayers for Mary and her nephew, may he be recovered from his illness and may she have joy in abundance. Mary, do you still teach?

Yes, stroking your cats is relaxing, pet therapy. I’ve just received a text from my sister that she has booked tickets for both of us to go to a dog’s cafe tomorrow. So exciting!

I like to read and spend time with friends. I live 5 minutes from the beach and I love to just go to the lakefront and walk or take my chair and sit and look at the lake- I especially love the lake in the winter. I also am renewed by worship band music- I sing along in my car probably to the amusement of other drivers…
I talk to people all day long in my job- sometimes renewal and recharging is just being quiet. I love to read my Bible.

How very true this is. Being present to someone who is struggling can be very wearing…emotionally, mentally, and in turn – physically. I have come to appreciate the depth of this over the past few years – and try to have an awareness of the heaviness which might be there for my friends as they care for me. Strength to do this well comes only from Our Heavenly Father.
Father – thank You for enabling others to walk with us, and for putting others in our path so that we make walk with them. Sustain us.
When I recognize my need to replenish – a walk outside is usually my “go-to”. Sometimes, just lying in my recliner with my cat watching tv. And, guiltily I confess, eating potato chips was how I dealt with stress during caring for my mom. And it still lingers as a bad habit, but one that I am trying to curb…and am making some progress.
The best, for me tho, is quieting myself in His Presence…either in prayer, meditation on His Word, or worship/praise music.
Dad is taking a trip today and tomorrow to Niagara Falls. He loves to travel. I pray he will be safe, and hope the memories don’t overwhelm him. A little concerned about him going alone, but respect that he knows what he needs and pray this will assist in continued healing. I believe he is finding great freedom in being able to do so many different things.
