Today’s Reflection
AROUND AGE THIRTY I remember looking at my life and suddenly realizing that I was a schoolteacher, comfortably married with two children, content in my suburban home. I attended church every Sunday, drove fairly close to the speed limit, watched too much television, and paid my taxes. I had never been in trouble; everyone knew me as kind and easygoing. To tell you the truth, I was a little disappointed in myself.
Then I realized this awesome truth, an understanding that has been growing in me for many years now, the revelation that “We have this treasure in clay jars, so that it may be made clear that this extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us.” My ordinariness, it turns out, happens to be the perfect vehicle for the glory of God. This is where we live, this world of work and marriage and television and children and church. This is also the exact venue where God purposes to shine. Our ordinariness is God’s opportunity.

Today’s Scripture
But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that it may be made clear that this extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our bodies.
—2 Corinthians 4:7-10, NRSV

I see God in the people who contribute here – in the ordinary but also extraordinary hope and faith and love that is shared here and in my life with my friends and family. God has richly blessed me – I am thankful for His presence daily in my very ordinary life. Prayers for all who come here today- prayers for relief from grief, for recovery from illness, for aging parents, for pets, for preparations for moving, for gardens and forget-me-nots…all the ordinary things in our lives- we give thanks to the Almighty for our many blessings.
I agree with all Lou’s insights. I add that I see God in the little moments, the sunrise and sunset, the flowers blooming and the earth coming alive again. The sweet new berries, the cry of a child, the sigh of a mother.
Prayers for Lou and her family, may the graduation party be fun for all.
Prayers for Mary and her father, may his health, appetite and strength ggrow better each day.
Prayers for Marcy and her update on her health, may her care continue.
Prayers for Robert and may good news come soon regarding the condo.
Prayers for Jill and Larry, may good memories be many.
Prayers for Connie and her kindness in tending the graves of loved ones.
I have a friend who I saw yesterday and it was evident he has returned to drugs. He is on the hardcore ones and I pray for him, his wife and children.
Prayers and blessings and warm hugs and thank you dear UR family
Thanks everyone for your prayers!
Praying for Julie’s friend that God will rescue him from the addiction of drugs in the name of Jesus Christ.
The X-ray showed that something is obstructing food from going down at the small intestine. That’s why my dad is not eating. They will try to suck it out through his nose. He had his CT scan at 6:30pm.
May God grant Robert a smooth transition to his new home and may both Erich and Robert find a church that they can worship and serve together.
May God watch over all of us and protect us from all harm and danger!
Blessings to all!
I see God in many places but most of all in my daily prayers, where I truly listen. The Upper Room Daily Reflections has long been a wonderful resource in aiding my steps in my relationship with God. I have ventured into the “sharing” portion on occasions when seeking further insight but never felt a call to participate until today.
For the last two years my 90 years young father and I have danced around the topic of his living alone and, yes, his driving. He recently fell and it has been determined he’s having seizures. Alas, the topic is now an issue. He has been living with me for 2 weeks while we face all his possibilities. Missy Buchanan’s “Voices of Aging” words these past few days in the Daily Reflections have been SPOT ON and such a comfort.
Today’s scripture is proof that God is present 100% if we just listen.
Thank you God for all the blessings you bestow on your children.
We are grateful today, especially, as we remember and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in your name and freedom – “no greater love…”.
Thank you for this resource and the amazing people who make it available.
Thank you for sprinkling your presence in our paths for us to trip over and become of aware of your daily blessings. Amen
WELCOME, Debra! Blessings to all!
