New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

When we encounter only the back of the tapestry, we see a holy mess! But amidst what may seem like chaos to us, God is weaving a spectacular masterpiece of love.

Today’s Scripture

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overtake it. . . . The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.
—John 1:5, 9 (NRSVUE)

Prayer for the Week

God, light my path as I journey toward Bethlehem. Help me set aside my fears and assumptions and learn to love as you have called me to love. Give me eyes to see your God-spark in me and in all those I meet. Amen. [prayer adapted from Mandalas, Candles, and Prayer by Sharon Seyfarth Garner]

Describing a tapestry of love is beyond me. Thank You, Lord, for Your amazing love.

I love to embroider pillowcases. When I first started, my Mom said that the back should look as pretty as the front. Well, I was more interested in the front so did not worry about the back., and I still do.
I think of the front as a tapestry of simple acts of kindness and the back as the settings that made the act happen. Settings such as timing, paths, locations, moods, a certain person often unknown to me. The front(act of kindness) could be a smile, helping hand to step up, allowing the person to go in front of me when in line, etc. I don’t plan random acts of kindness, they just present themselves if I am looking. And when I follow through, I see myself as a light in the darkness of their day.
May I see more opportunities to shine in this dark world that my tapestry may evolve.
    Blessings NEM family.
