New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

I am comforted by the everyday things around me, all things wild and beautiful and beyond understanding. I affirm that they are very good, which does not surprise me. After all, everything that is, from the smallest particle to the largest galaxy, reflects God to us if we pay attention.

—Roberta C. Bondi, Wild Things: Poems of Grief and Love, Loss and Gratitude (Upper Room Books, 2014)

Today’s Scripture

Something More

Advent is just around the corner. In Season’s Greetings, twelve vividly imagined letters from long-ago Bible characters who were there for the birth of Jesus speak to the many meanings of Christmas.

Walked through deep rustling leaves to the beaver pond yesterday. The pond was as still as pane of glass, a shining mirror. All that surrounded it was reflected. Later, despite heightened complaints due to the election , Erich made a wonderful supper of fish and chips with coleslaw plus an ice cream and caramel topped date puddiing. God shows up all the time, all around us. Thank You, Lord.

I see God in the beauty of people who love without condition and practice peace. I see God in the beauty of gentle rain falling, and in the blue Autumn sky. I see God in the case that is given to any animal who needs help by a compassionate friend. Lord, help me to be thankful this day. I’m riddled with anxiety. Thank You Lord, for this space.

      I see a typo I didn’t notice:care that is given, not case.

Walking home the day after the election. I was really heartbroken. Some simple leaves were just bending over under the weight of snow. I could almost hear them calling. “Stop and look at me. I am so beautiful “ Be still and know you are God. A little farther on clusters of evergreen branches did the same thing. Be still and know that you are God. The beauty that surrounds us, our daily routines that ground us, and mostly our interactions with the people we cherish are the things that reflect God go us.
