New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

It was critical for the people of Israel to assess Goliath before determining who would fight on their behalf. Likewise in our own lives, we must pause to assess the opposition around us. If we do not, we might fight with the wrong tools. When life sends trouble your way, you must assess exactly what that trouble is, where it comes from, what power it has over you, and what it’s connected to, before you try to fight it. If you fight without an assessment, you will have no idea if you’re winning or not because you do not fully know what you are up against. I encourage you to do some bold assessments. What are you truly up against? What tools do you need to overcome the challenges you are facing?

Today’s Scripture

[Goliath shouted:] Here and now I challenge Israel’s whole army! Choose someone to fight me!
—1 Samuel 17:10 (CEV)

Prayer for the Week

God, give me the boldness to stand up to oppression, trouble, and affliction. I ask that you strengthen me for those battles: show me my past wins, reveal to me my best tools, remind me who and what I am fighting for, and protect me along the way. Amen. What are you truly up against? My biggest challenge at the moment and i expect it will be present for some time is my son’s mental illness. What tools do you need to overcome the challenges you are facing? I am taking a low dose of medication, have a psychiatric nurse practitioner, and a support group, and most importantly God behind me. Thankfully my son is not without ability, He is a great help in many ways. Thank You, Lord.
Bible/book study of “Unafraid” is helping and we meet today.

I am only now realizing how insidious h’s abuse was. Currently, I am dealing with Megan and her issues and considering some options. I am looking to God and seeking his council.
