Today’s Reflection
In each setting, whether in the desert or the city, women grappled with core questions about what it meant to follow Christ and what rhythms of solitude and community would foster their discipleship. The desert mothers invite us to reflect on our practices—the means by which we seek after God and the attitudes of heart that dispose us to deeper relationship with God. In the coming days, as we reflect on these women of the desert, we will explore such practices as prayer, humility, lectio divina, and discernment, asking along the way, How do we practice? By what particular path will we follow Christ? What habits enable us to unhide ourselves from God?

Today’s Scripture
Jesus would withdraw to deserted places for prayer.

Prayer for the Week
We are waking, God.
We are waking,
and we pray
that we may know you
as manna in the desert,
wellsprings in the wilderness,
honey from the rock,
O God our habitation
and our way.

Constantly reminding myself that God is ever present in my life and everyone’s lives.
A wonderful day at church yesterday – very thankful for the visit by the bishop and her spouse, she gave a great message, celebrated Communion with us, and we shared lunch. Hope this week brings an end to “awaiting moderation”. Thank You, Lord
Un-hiding myself from God. This is an intriguing thought. I suppose I don’t want to admit I might do things to hide myself. But on reflection I believe it is certainly true that I do. I have thoughts and actions that I prefer to think of as benign and beyond God’s awareness . . . when of course I know neither is true.
The best I can see to do to un-hide myself from him is to attempt to pray to him in an ongoing conversation. When I do, it helps me recall his constant presence and companionship – and I believe it amounts to my attempt (however feeble) to pray unceasingly. This question is a good one.
Singing, playing piano, reading and praying Psalms. I pray Romans 8:26 when I can’t form my own words, which is often.
Confession thrusts me in to an unhidden position. As does surrender. Bare before Him, in desperate need of Him and His mercy. The purest form of worship.
My physical therapist let me hit balls at PT today. There was this big net that was put up and she kinda bounced the ball to me and I took a few steps and hit. Felt good. The sun was out beautifully today. It was 73! Teachers were taking their classes out to the courtyards. We are giddy sun-drunk!
Early to bed this evening.
