New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Hidden within our loneliness . . . lies a treasure: the longing that God placed in our hearts for divine friendship. We were created with the purpose of befriending God. Our infinite longings remind us that we are made for the Infinite. We were divinely designed for divine connection. Because this is how we have been wired, the only thing that ultimately will bring us joy and happiness is to know a close friendship with God. . . . Deep within us there is a hole that only God’s living presence can fill.

Living alone, six years post divorce I certainly feel lonely many times but I try not to dwell on this- I have my elderly mother and aunt that I am responsible for from afar, I have my three kids that I am blessed to see on and off, I have lots of friends and a church community- but even with all of that I certainly never pictured this life living alone- I had a lot of future plans that now look very different. When I do feel alone I know that I can turn to any of my people but it is my relationship with the Lord that I turn to many times – and I admit sometimes it is me saying – is this really what you had in mind for me Lord??? But I have to trust that it is His will and not mine – and I try to lean into that and take it one day at a time.
Prayers for those struggling with loneliness- for those who are grieving, those filled with worries, those care giving- for all who come here – God’s peace.

The topic of friendship with Jesus reminded me of the Super Bowl ads not long ago, JesUS gets us. Yes, He does!! The last 2 years have flown by but then not so much since we have a new diagnosis and treatment schedule in our lives. The most important part of these years is that God has been with us everyday. The daily devotionals from this site and others, reading books about others who have this disease, participating in an online support group, connecting with each of you in our virtual community as we read, write and pray, have been my rock as I devote myself to caring for my husband as we live this new life together.
Andrea, I relived our early days as you related being a caregiver 24/7 and being exhausted. Yes, diseases can be physically and mentally exhausting. I pray that your every need will be met and that you will be strengthened to meet whatever the day holds. I pray for wisdom for Lowell’s healthcare team as they plan his treatment.
Lou, I pray that you will feel the virtual hug I am sending your way. You are definitely in my prayers.
Julie, Rusty, Ally, and all other caregivers, I pray that God will be with us and strengthen us as we care for others.
Jill, I never knew about end-of-life doulas but think they would be a wonderful resource to many. Bless you for volunteering in this role.
To all who come to this site, I pray God’s blessings will be upon you and hold you. He, JesUS, knows our every need and promises to be with us. Thank you Lord.
