New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

This is an unexpected entry in the list of divine provisions we are counting this week. … Today, thanks to the strong connection between Paul and the Philippians, the divine provision of tender relationships enters the list at number one. The needs of the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi take precedence over Paul’s desire to depart and be with Christ. The connective tissue of Christian community tethers him to this life even when dying is gain for him.

Today’s Scripture

[Paul wrote,] I’m torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me. But for your sakes, it is better that I continue to live.
—Philippians 1:23-24 (NLT)

For the longest time, my parents, followed by my wife, my children, and a pastor.
I read posts from Ally and Julie. Hope Ally’s injury is healing well, thankful David has finished PT, but, like Ally, I hope he continues. Prayer for Ally’s sister and BIL, I’ll share a pain with Julie.
At my wife’s funeral her aunt asked me, “Why did you let her die ?” Her husband told me, “The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.” Thankfully I have been given peace with these, but the memory remains. I pray that you also will receive peace. Thank You, Lord.

Tender relationships outside of my family are treasures. Three of them especially. Two have been hugely instrumental in me getting to surgery yesterday and recovering. My dearest tennis friend picked me up at 5:30 yesterday morning and took me to the clinic hospital for my surgery. She was with me as I waited and was a great comfort. I had tremendous peace going into the procedure. I was so cold and she held my hand that had the IV in it, keeping it warm, while the rest of me was under heated blankets. She sent updates to my two other friends, as well as my sister and dad. Then my friend came once my surgery began and took me back to her house and cared for me. She got my prescriptions from a drug store near her house, picked up ice, wrestled with an ice machine she couldn’t get to work and kept me propped up and supported me on my crutches. My nephews wife came to the rescue with a working ice machine and I was set for the night. My friend was up every few hours to refill the ice machine. My surgery went very well and there was no tear found. My bursa sac was removed and all the tendinitis scar tissue and inflammation was also removed. Once the nerve block wore off last evening, I was weight bearing. She brought me home today and got me settled in. My tennis friend brought me homemade Italian wedding soup and stayed and visited a while with me. It is good to be home with my kittens. My third friend will be over tomorrow evening for dinner. Now that my dad knows I am well taken care of – he can depart on his cruise this Sunday – and enjoy himself.
Life got so hectic heading into the surgery – prepping for school and my house for worst case scenario. Glad it didn’t come to that. I experienced no ill effects from the anesthesia. I was a bit concerned as mom had a heck of a time with it. Everything went so well. Now I will just rest up. I am planning on returning to the classroom on Monday.
Hope to be back on track here as well.
