Today’s Reflection
The ring shout was a worship form that emerged, naturally, during song and prayer. In Africa, dancing is as unscripted and spontaneous as laughter. When our forebears gathered to pray and sing, dancing was as natural to the gathering as was clapping, swaying, and other ecstatic movements (the shout). The ring shout was more than a familiar movement to use while singing, it was an opportunity to transcend the isolation of the whip and the overseer’s frequent tirades within the familiarity of the community circle.

Movement is not emphasized in the worship services at my church. The church I attended prior – tried to incorporate dance/movement – very briefly. I think it is a beautiful way of expressing oneself, but find most people are uncomfortable with it.
Dad seems to be doing fine – he checked in with his PCP yesterday. It is possible his blood pressure medication caused the hives/reaction. We are to golf tomorrow afternoon.
Yesterday was the first morning of tennis camp. I had 5th and 6th grade boys. This is more of just a summer camp activity, as opposed to these youngsters being interested in getting better at tennis. This is fine and they seemed to enjoy themselves. It wasn’t too hot, as there was a fair amount of cloud cover.
I met with my spiritual director yesterday afternoon – and we had a very meaningful session. She began by leading me through an Examen exercise. And from that our discussion ensued.
I also had PT yesterday – continuing to see minor improvement which is encouraging.
The mistake was mine – misidentifying April – the post-er for the pretzel story.
Movement is not really emphasized in worship at our church. We move around at greeting time, stand for hymns and the reading of the gospel, and sometimes clap during a song. Sometimes in choir, we will use rhythm instruments, such as tambourine and bongos. I heard a Christian singer say once that God created rhythm and it is good.
I’m in orientation for my part-time job. David fell yesterday while I was at work. He hasn’t fallen in months, and then falls on my second day. We need this job to stay housed and keep utilities on. Please pray for a solution. I’m thinking Lifeline, which my mother had.
Movement at my church is like Ally’s. New England is very much that way. I do think younger people are more likely to dance, especially to a praise band.
The old stove went to the transfer station today. The appliance upgrade is complete.
Now to see about other issues, how they affect us, and what we might be able to do about them.
Wonderful activities that Jill is participating in. Glad Larry is doing ok and will be golfing with you.
Hope there is a good solution for David that makes work at home for Ally possible.
Prayers for Anneliese suffering from neuropathy and recovering from a fall.
Need a nap, FT with my daughter tonight.
Thank You, Lord for the blessings of the day.
