New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

What is the spiritual equivalent of good dirt? Answer: humility. Just as trees wither and die without good soil, our soul will not grow without humility. With that soil in place, roots can form in the earth, and as they grow deep and strong, the tree moves out of the ground and toward the light.

—Christopher Maricle, Deeply Rooted: Knowing Self, Growing in God (Upper Room Books, 2016)

Today’s Scripture

“Some [seeds] fell into good soil, and when it grew, it produced a hundredfold.” As [Jesus] said this, he called out, “Let anyone with ears to hear listen!”

    Reading the Bible and prayer.
The meeting with the caregiving company went well. I am impressed by how they treat their caregivers. As these are the people who will be coming into my home and caring for h eventually, it is essential that they be well trained and have an employer that values them and their work. I am happy with my choice.

Gratitude helps me with humility. Naming basic things which I can easily take for granted. I was reading something yesterday, where a person sat down at 8 AM and specifically named everything that she was grateful for since she woke up, which she wouldn’t have privilege to in a third world country. It is astounding to think about. So, I try to take intentional pauses, and think about gratitude.
Today was the last day of “regularly scheduled” state testing. Of course we will have makeups in the days ahead, but back to our normal school day schedule. However, AP and IB testing begins next week – so my classes will be very impacted for the next four weeks.
A mild day today with lots of sun. The clouds have rolled in now – but it is still quite pleasant enough to take a very brief walk. Rain is setting in tomorrow and remains in the forecast for quite a while.
My sister and her husband flew to Florida today and will be driving back one of their vehicles. A vehicle they used up here gave up the ghost and Don has found car prices ridiculous. They are due back Sunday.
