Today’s Reflection
God instructs us to write God’s word on our hearts, to meditate on it day and night. It is important to God that we know not only the stories but also those verses that speak to us, through us, and for us when we lack the words to pray, praise, or even speak. Memorizing scriptures is not for the goal of winning competitions or conversations or even for a litany of moral takeaways but rather for the nourishment and encouragement of our hearts and the hearts of others. It helps form the spiritual foundation we stand on as we grow from children to adults, from young Christians to mature disciples.
Memorizing scripture also helps form a common prayer language—praise, lament, dependence on God, grace, hope, peace, and joy. In praying the scriptures we identify with the sadness of the Jobs and the Josephs and discover the joys of the Sarahs and the Marys. We speak our beliefs with the words of the scriptures when our hearts feel doubtful and uncertain. We claim the promises of God when the circumstances of our lives are shaky. And we pray the scriptures when we simply don’t have the words ourselves.

Love thy neighbor as thyself, the Lord’s Prayer, love the Lord with all your strength, mind, and soul come to mind. They teach how we should respond to God and to each other, The photo shoot went well, condo on the market Monday. Another warm day, then cooler rainy weather

Thankful always for the many newsy posts from the NEM family. Prayers for Julie’s, David’s. Ally’s, and Jill’s health issues, tests, falls; Roger’s hopefully better numbers on Sunday. Parting is such sweet sorrow- Ally after the visit of your sister. Hope there is progress with the disability application after that disappointing news. Not familiar with Paper 1 and Paper 2 at Jill’s school, teaching in the pandemic was the challenge no one wants again. Glad your new tennis group and partner are making for fun win or lose. Larry is still playing golf! That’s a blessing. Prayers for April’s caregiving. That is both rewarding and challenging at the same time. May Julie’s PT help get her back in motion. Very glad she is getting medical attention. Glad to hear from Rick, prayers for him and his husband. Lou, her Mom, and children are in my prayers too. We all keep praying, each in our own way, God loves diversity! There’s only one prayer that fits everyone, The Lord’s Prayer.
Am very thankful for the progress made so far with the condo sale in NH and the search for a new home in the Poconos. The sooner there is a contract here in NH , the sooner we can search for and find a home in PA. Thank You, Lord.
As I have related previously my upbringing did not involve much religious instruction. I do not remember the scripture even being read in the church service though I would assume it was. I am unfamiliar with the Baptist service so I do not know.
Megan and I took the kittns to the vet this morning for an inital exam with our normal vet. They received all of their shots and testing from the rescue group. They did well, however one flea was found on one of them even though they never go outside. We flea treated all the cats and will only do it once.
Prayers for Ally’s disability appeal and her and David’s health issues. Prayers for April as she continues to be a caregiver. Prayers for Jill as she spends tomorrow testing Roger. I pray his numbers are good. Prayers for Lou and her family. Prayers for Robert as he continues to take the steps necessary to facilitate a move to the Poconos. Prayers for Rick and his husband.
Yesterday was the start of new treatments . The Bible verse of Light for the Day was Psalm 4:8. It was perfect timing , a miracle, and I will say it everyday.
“I will both lay down in peace and sleep for you , Oh Lord , make me to dwell in safety..I changed the I to we and this morning we both awakened from a good night’s sleep :))
Keeping everyone in my prayers. Thank you for your prayers for us .. Jesus listens. Blessings and love to all.
I would say as a child – all the “favorite verses” were mine as well…Proverbs 3:5,6 probably tops the list. Psalm 5:8 was the verse I claimed during my spiritual direction…”Lead me Lord, in Your righteousness.” Ever since mom’s struggle began – my go to verses are from Lamentations 3. I believe I listed them here recently…”But this I call to mind and therefore I have hope. The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. His mercies never come to an end. They are new ever morning. Great is Thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, therefore, I will wait on Him”
As I have been spending time memorizing the Psalms – I have been more intentional recently in asking God to allow His words to become truth in my life. Not just words I am memorizing – but that they will feed me…things going in, but also things going on to His glory. I do find myself reciting these passages if I am awake at night, or slow to fall asleep.
The day started out beautifully and dad and I went golfing. But about halfway through some dark clouds gathered and we heard thunder off in the distance. The rains came on hole 14 – we finished that hole and then called it a day. The thunder and lightning remained, so we headed off to an early dinner. There is a favorite place – where we get perch dinners – but it was unexpectedly closed. We ended up at a mom and pop’s Italian place – which was sufficient. It hadn’t rained back home – so I quickly mowed my lawn. Before I could do the trimming, big drops of rain began falling. Not sure if I will be able to get out and trim – maybe tomorrow. That is when I will be working with my flowers as well. It will be good stress relief, as the day goes on, both Roger and I will be frustrated.
Thank you for your kind words and prayers for Roger and I. His birthday is coming up. Wasn’t sure he would make it to double digits – but now I am feeling pretty confident. What a blessing he is. Each morning we have our morning routine – him rubbing his face up and down my cheeks, and nose to nose. He is definitely more like his old self. Hopeful for encouraging numbers.
Greeting to All,
The Lord’s Prayer, Psalm 23 and Psalm 118,119 and Lamentations 3. I Jude 1:24-25 are some of my favorites they have brought me comfort and strength. So many changes for us, we moved back to San Diego after about a year in Texas. Grateful we didn’t sell our townhome. We lost Scott’s mom at the beginning of March due to complications of Covid. She was such a beautiful and lovely women and lived to be 93. We are currently looking for a new home here and I start back to school in the fall. I have been up in the loft (as Marcie would say) monitoring NEM and trying to keep up on you all, but I’m getting better. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. You have all been a source of strength and hope through these times.
