New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

One of the bad habits we can fall into is to fill up the silence with our words just about the time someone is trying to tell us what they are truly feeling or thinking. Filling up silence with our words is often about our commitment to our assumptions and our own agenda. Jesus, by contrast, is often genuinely curious to hear the other person.

Today’s Scripture

My child, be attentive to my words;
incline your ear to my sayings.
—Proverbs 4:20 (NRSV)

Prayer for the Week

Teach me, Lord Jesus, to listen as you did. Help me to be slow to speak, slow to judge, and quick to hear. Open my ears so that I can sense both the cry for help around me and your Spirit more clearly, that I might follow you more completely. I pray, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

I don’t need to do anything because I am naturally curious about others. Part of this is my belief that I have nothing to offer and no one wants to hear about me.
To that end I rarely share anything about myself in these comments as others do. I am convinced that nothing about my life is of interest.
Prayers for Ally and David, for biopsy results and job searching, may both go well. Prayers for Jill’s health as she was exposed to Covid. Prayers for safe travel and a successful trip for Robert.

Thankful for prayers for me and Erich, we have made an offer on a single family home. but are awaiting the seller’s decision to accept or reject. Home safely in Conway, our cat is back with us.
For the most part a successful trip, it will be even better if we have this house. If it doesn’t happen, we try again. We gave this try out best effort, but the market is not normal.
My prayers for Ally&David, the biopsy results, job search, disability application, and Jeremy. Yes, prayers for Jill after exposure to Covid.
Listening is the best way to have my curiosity perked up. As details are expressed, the chance for increased interest grows.
Thank You, Lord for the blessings of the day.

My problem is that often something in someone’s story will remind me of something from my own life and I must fight the temptation to talk about myself, let my mind wonder, or tune the other person out. I try to employ skills I used in my work in corrections: reflective listening, open-ended questions. They help me to focus on the other person and their story.
David and I had our session with our pastor yesterday. We are working to improve our communication skills, mainly how to ask for something we need.
We are trying to trust God regarding the biopsy. I have an evaluation for disability with a psychologist tomorrow. I’m very nervous. it has been hard to focus on other things. Thanks so much for your prayers for us. Truly appreciated.
Robert, prayers that your bid on the house is accepted and plans for your move continue to transition. I pray you find a nice little Methodist church that is inclusive and loving to all. Julie, I think you are a fascinating person with many gifts and much to offer others. You have helped me a lot.
Jill, prayers that you stay well and get good recliner time with little Roger. I’m so happy to hear that his vet is pleased with his progress. Praise God.vLou, I thank you for your prayers and for the good insight you always bring. I thank God for our NEM family. Prayers for our world, that light will dispel the darkness and peace will reign. Blessings to all!
