Today’s Reflection
The stories of the saints are replete with displays of influence over the elements, animals, and other people; they could also alter the course of illness, injury, and even death. Most important, the miraculous signs and wonders that weave through the saints’ lives confirmed that they shared in the power of Christ. The hagiographers intended to convey that such power did not originate with the saints themselves but instead flowed from their kinship with Christ and their intense desire to model their lives on his own.

Simple wonders from those who have modeled their lives after Christ- I think of the youth pastor at my church who is currently leading a large group into Appalachia to help rebuild homes for the Appalachia service project – trips my three children went on for years working in ministry with other youth and parent leaders. I also think of my mother – a leader in her own church who has served in countless ways modeling the selflessness of Christ – giving and loving in so many ways in her church. I had a wonderful visit with my mother and brother. I saw both of my aunts, my uncle, many cousins and several friends that I have known since kindergarten – it was a wonderful time together. I got home last night and felt so “lost” for awhile- but back to work right away which tends to help me. Thankful for safe travels and for people who love me. I attended my childhood church with my family which was also so nice – I do not get to do that often as we usually travel home on a Sunday. It was nice to be off duty for a few days and I am thankful that I was able to spend time in my hometown with my people. It was a beautiful time together. Continued prayers for Robert and his travels, for Julie and her journey, for Jill and her father and sister, for Ally and David and the recent struggles, and for all who come to this place. Blessings to all on this very warm summer day.
The first pastor at the last church I attended and his wife went above and beyond for their flock. He hand delivered the UR to me when I was unable to attend church and before I was aware it was available online. He even fell on the ice once and landed on his back and he was near retirement age!
I can relate to Jill regarding her mother. My mom attends church and is an elder to boot…but doesn’t own a Bible and judges others constantly. She judges me when I pray, silently, prior to meals. I , like Jill, long for her to have a true relationship with the Lord, especially due to her role in church.
Prayers for Ally and David, may God hold them and keep them in His care. I pray Ally finds relief from her GI issues and regains her strength and finds a job she is able to do from home. May God send the resources they need in the interim. Prayers for Jill and Larry, I pray that Larry listens to his body today especially given the combination of heat and recent illness. Prayers of thanksgiving for Lou’s safe travel and wonderful visit. Prayers for Robert’s safety and warm family being made while he visits hhis daughter and granddaughters. Prayers for Robert as he deals with Erich while he is away. Prayers for Marti and her staff. Thank you for your prayers and may God bless all who visit here.
The wonders I have observed in the saints I have known: unconditional love, the ability to forgive great wrongs, sacrificial love, wisdom, the ability to impart mercy, passion for justice. There are many others.
Thank you everyone, for your prayers for us. God is working. We received a great blessing today. Thank you, Lord.
Lou, my youth group raised money for Appalachian Service Project. A wonderful ministry. I’m glad you had a great visit home. Julie, I will be praying for your mom and her relationship with God. Prayers for Jill, Larry’s wellness, and Jill’s relationships with Larry and her sister. Prayer that all who visits here connect with God. Lord, place persons in our paths who model Christ-likeness. Move in our hearts to banish selfishness. Give us wisdom. May we love others as ourselves enough to be inconvenienced, may we set aside our fears and do the right thing. Stay safe, everyone. Blessings And peace to all.
Dad’s supreme love and patience with mom is such a Godly example to me. My friend, who now lives in Montana with her husband – leaving her life here, family and friends, to be one with her husband, where he wanted to be. And then, when the time required it, she came home for months on end to tend to her mom with Parkinson’s. She was such a mentor to me, but missed out on my spiritual growth spurt into maturity, as she had just moved to Montana. She is a selfless giver of love. My friend, who is ready to send her daughter off to college. She, too, has matured so much the past decade or so. She deals with anxiety, yet very few would know it. She pushes herself past all reasonable limits for her family.
My head was “not in the game” today as I was obsessing over dad, concerned that he should not have been out there in the heat playing. He admitted he didn’t feel 100% . But, despite me (again) trying to talk him out of playing – we went ahead and played. Well, I chased a stupid white golf ball around all afternoon, lost a few too. Played the worst ever for the summer. Just not in a good head space. He is obstinate, unwilling to be reasoned with – and I must find a better way to deal/accept this and surrender it to God. I realize I am feeling completely overwhelmed with the responsibility for caring for him. I know I place this on myself and need to just spend some time with God on this.
It is good to hear of Lou’s time – nourishment for her soul.
Father, hold each of us, cloak us in Your peace, beckon us to deeper trust.
