New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Compassion lies at the heart of the authentic Christ-following life. Any spiritual experience – whether it be one of solitude and silence, prayer and fasting, or worship and celebration – that does not result in a deeper concern for our suffering neighbors can hardly be called Christian. The critical test of relationship with the Holy One always involves the quality of our love for those around us. If our communion with God isolates us from the painful realities of our world, inoculates us into an excessive preoccupation with our own well-being, it must be considered suspect. If, on the other hand, it finds expression in greater compassion and a willingness to show care, then it passes the test for genuineness. This authenticity test surfaces when we ponder the words and deeds of Jesus. Consider the parable of the Good Samaritan in this regard. A traveler in his way from Jerusalem to Jericho is mugged and left to die at the side of the road. Soon afterward a priest comes by and then a Levite, both of whom pass by without response. Finally a Samaritan stops, bandages the injured man’s wounds, helps him onto his donkey, and takes him to a nearby inn, where he continues to take care of him. Jesus ends the parable with a straightforward challenge to the listening lawyer, “Go and do likewise.”

Today’s Scripture

How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! I try to count them — they are more than the sand; I come to the end — I am still with you.
—Psalm 139:17-18 (NRSV)

Had to finagle a way to post this morning, but effort paid off. A ministry for the homeless is where i’m interested to help. It is expanding. I’ve donated to it and my church supports it. Hope this is a great weekend for everyone, thankful for cooler and rainy weather. The rain may hinder fireworks and model painting, but is much needed. Resources enabling needed dental work for Erich. Plans and prep for at rip to see my daughter, granddaughters coming along, haven’t seen them since late summer last year. If all goes well there’s an interesting Boston to Albany NY train ride that will get me to see them. Prayers for needs, concerns, and thanks on your behalf, NEM. Thank You, Lord.

I am hoping to somehow find a place I can volunteer as I am eager to be God’s hand and feet but need to search for a suitable opportunity. I hope the church I intend to restart going to is a source of information. When I went there many years ago they had many such opportunities and Megan and I volunteered for the Meals on Wheels program they ran from their kitchen. But I left that church when I remrried and moved to a different town.
I have an appointment with my dermatologist in order to get a note stating that I am indeed disabled and unable to earn any money. My lawyer needs this to ensure that I get alimony. Pkease pray all goes smoothly and I leave with the note.
Prayers for Robert and I also had to go to the website to find the comments. I saw on a show I watch that there is a hotel that is actually in an old train. Each car is its own room! Thiught of you immediately. Prayers for Erich as he undergoes dental work and may your travel plans come to fruition. Prayers for Ally’s, David’s and Marcy’s health and finances. Prayers for Jill, Lou and Robert’s family relationships.
Thank you for your prayers and God bless you.
