New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

Church planters take their cue from the Incarnation not only as a principle of making the gospel relevant and practical in real-life ways but also in settling down into the life of a particular place; moving from being an outsider to being an insider; starting as a joiner rather than as a leader. Building trust one experience, one relationship, one day at a time, layer upon layer.

—Ben Ingebretson, Plant Like Jesus: The Church Planter’s Devotional (Upper Room Books, 2021)

Today’s Question

How have you been invited to settle down into the life of a particular place? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
—John 1:14, NIV

Prayer for the Week

God of love,
plant me in the soil of your grace.
Nurture me with the strength of Christ,
the vine of everlasting life.
Enlighten me with the wisdom of your Spirit,
which flows through me today and all days.
Abide in me,
that I may abide in you
and live in your love.
In your holy name, I pray. Amen.

Moving to the Mount Washington Valley town of Conway NH came after many visits, rides through town, and a ton of online research. I particularly looked for a new church, found an all inclusive UMC in nearby Center Conway and transferred my membership. Even being a native northern New Englander, my home state is still Vermont, I knew it would take time to settle in, that’s just the way it is. I have to say it has gone well so far. I will never feel like a native whose family reaches back for 100s of years, but slowly i getting the feel of the place. Since the congregation, more commonly called community here, is small there is a great need for people to help in many ways. I’m thankful that I have been asked and been able to help.
I pray you all had a very blessed Easter, both the sunrise and regular service were very special. Let’s pray these are the last we’ll see in a pandemic.Prayers continue for the needs, concerns, and joys of this oasis of faith. Family, health , legal problems, well-being, means of support, job situations, and ministries are in my prayers because of you.
I started an effort to read the entire Bible in one year today and will begin a Bible study of Hebrews next week. Hopefully our church will have a new pastor by July 1st. We are enjoying and absorbing the benefits of our current pastor who will retire from ministry at this church the end of June. She will continue as a hospice pastor.
Thank You, Lord, for the greatest gift of all on Easter morning. And all the believers said, “Amen.”

I was accepted at Penn State in order to pusue my education and received my master’s degree there. I was also offered a job at the nuclear plant near Pittsburgh and moved here for that position. I agree with Robert that I will never like a native as many people all live very near their nuclear family and school friends. Dus to these lifetime relationships I have found people unwilling to form new friendships. I never even found a friend at church even though I was a member of several committees and small group Bible studies.
Prayers for Robert and his church as they transition to a new pastor.
