New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today’s Reflection

The Gospels describe a variety of people whose encounters with Jesus result in challenge. In most instances, Jesus challenges those individuals themselves—and through them, us. Jesus encourages them, and us, to conceive of family and community beyond societal norms. Jesus confronts them, and us, to decide for ourselves whether Jesus’ ministries of compassion and justice embody God’s purposes for this world. Jesus calls them, and us, to a discipleship whose core is self-yielding service rather than self-serving privilege.

—John Indermark, Gospeled Lives: Encounters with Jesus, A Lenten Study (Upper Room Books, 2008)

Today’s Question

Today’s quote says Jesus “encourages,” “confronts,” and “calls” us. How are you being invited you to respond? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

He went up the mountain and called to him those whom he wanted, and they came to him. And he appointed twelve, whom he also named apostles, to be with him, and to be sent out to proclaim the message.
—Mark 3:13-14 (NRSV)

Prayer for the Week

Holy One, challenge me today to see the world as you see it. Challenge me to seek your way and to not settle for what might be the norm.

Good morning, UR family! May the Lord bless you and keep you now and always. May this day be filled with His Blessings!

I do not know how or to what God is calling me. He is encouraging me through my current ordeal, albeit to me his encouragements are mere whispers. For instance, h is sitting across from me, again, doing paperwork. He has two desks and multilpe tables but due to his hoarding he is unable to use any of these as they are covered in detritus.
Prayers of gratitude that BJ has checked in and let us know she is well. May she and her mom continue to be safe and well.
Prayers for Ally and David, may they have been to hospital and received a true diagnosis with resultant treatment and pain abatement. Lord, please embrace Ally and give her the strength to withstand the onslaught of issues she is facing.
Prayers for Jill and Larry, that both are safe and well. I am thankful you exercised in the house today as it is indeed windy and also there is freezing rain which would have caused slippery walkways.
Prayers for Lou, may her basement remaiin dry as the snow melts.
Prayers for Robert and his safety, may he check in soon.

This past week’s devotionals has been so full of Joy. Today we start another topic, but I still like to think of Joy….as in the song: Re-joy-se, Re-joy-se, Re-joy-se, Give thanks and sing!! My word for several years has been joy, but this year it seems to me that I see more joy and am more joyful than in the past. I have added gratitude to my daily devotionals, I am focusing on looking for joy rather than having it seek me out, and then I feel joyful when I connect the finding with the way I suddenly feel. This morning the tulip buds on the plant on our counter are fully open….spring has arrived inside although the snow is still on the ground outside.
Another thought about Re-joy-se is the joy of Christmas and again at Easter. Before each of them, there is waiting and pain, but we are fueled by joy for the outcome and oh the joy when the day arrives and we rejoice!!
Thank you, faithful UR Family, for your prayers for each of us and I hope also yourself. God so loves us all and walks alongside us every step.
Julie, I pray for your and Megan’s safety, for strength during this time of waiting for answers from the judicial system. I pray the prayers you type here for all to see, thank you for your faithfulness.
Jill, your insights to the daily questions are nuggets of gold. I pray for your skills of teaching to instill in your students knowledge of humanity and how we all are living in the same world, our world.
Lou, may you be safe and warm in your home. May your children be safe and know that you are holding them in prayer. May your clients realize what a blessing you are to them as you help them.
Ally, I lift you and David to Our Lord. May healthcare workers provide you with answers and direction for healing. May you trust that Our Lord has a path ahead for you.
Robert, I pray that the counseling appointments you and Enrich are participating in will be successful. Your persistence inspires me to continue with situations I am concerned about.
BJ, good morning and thank you for your cheerful greeting!!
Rick, Connie, Andrea, Betsy, Mary, Marcy, and others whose names slip my mind….may God walk beside you and help/heal you.
I pray for our USA, those in our government, all leaders, those who are cold from the winter storms, those who are reaching out to those in need, meeting needs one person at a time. I pray for all those outside the USA, their needs are much like ours or maybe more. Oh Lord, may we be light to others.

I feel that God is calling me to faithfully support my dad – in whatever way that may look in the moment. Our phone calls have begun to last much longer as this isolation is weighing heavy. I keep telling myself to be patient and listen well, engage him well. Additionally I will be accompanying him to his cardiologist appointment next week. He saw his regular doctor today and needs to return for a scan on Thursday. He doesn’t hear well and I am not sure he has all the details correct about Thursday, but as of now he does not want me to go with him this week. I keep telling him two pairs of ears are better than one…but try not to push and overstep into his independence. Such a fine line.
A friend from my small group of a few years ago – she was so faithful in texting me encouragement during mom’s struggle. Her husband had a stroke last week – so I am trying to be faithful, prayerful and in touch with her.
And – with my kids – supporting the seniors now that we know there will be no exams for their program. And continuing on with my juniors – addressing their concerns as to what things will look like with some back in person in the classroom, while others remain remote. It will be a lot – but we will get through it. We have made it almost 12 months now. I keep trying to temper my own expectations – as when we return it won’t be like it used to be…at least not the remainder of this school year.
Robert’s absence remains troublesome. Father – we entrust his care to You. May he and Erich both be well.
Good to hear from BJ and April. April – when you mentioned the song…I thought it was going to be the Rejoice, Rejoice…and again I say Rejoice…Rejoice in the Lord al-l-l-ways and again I say Rejoice. That song will keep on playing the rest of the night in my mind.
