Today’s Reflection
God is always ready to give us light, not of a material kind, but that which is intellectual and spiritual. But we are not always ready to receive, since we are inclined toward other things and are involved in darkness through our desire for temporal things. So prayer brings about a turning of the heart to God, who is ever ready to give, if we will but take what God has given. And in the very act of turning, there is effected a cleansing of the inner eye. The things of a temporal kind that were desired are excluded, so that the vision of the pure heart may be able to bear the pure light, divinely shining, without any setting or change—and not only to bear it, but also to remain in it, not merely without annoyance, but also with indescribable joy, in which a life truly and sincerely blessed is perfected.

Today’s Scripture
A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

Prayer for the Week
Try this suggested prayer practice this week:
1. Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and remember that God loves you and you are in God’s presence.
2. Imagine God calling you by name, asking “(Your name), what do you want?”
3. Answer God honestly with whatever word or phrase comes from deep within you.
4. Call God by name, a name you frequently use for God.
5. Combine your name for God with your word or phrase to form a brief prayer that flows smoothly.
Submit your prayer to The Upper Room.

Heart of Stone
All my life I would give away
Just to melt this heart of stone
All my wealth, all my treasured dreams
Just to melt this heart of stone
For I know You can’t shine through me
Until I’m broke in two
So Holy Spirit, breathe on me
And melt this heart of stone
Faithful friend, You’re there to the end
Yet my heart has crowded You out
One by one, little things I’ve done
Turned my heart away from the Son
And I know You can’t shine through me
Until I’m broke in two
So Holy Spirit, breathe on me
And melt this heart of stone
For I know no other power
And I know no other love
Only You alone can melt this stone
Break this heart of stone
Break this heart of stone
Break this heart of stone and set me free
Holy Spirit, breathe on me
And melt this heart of stone
Oh, Holy Spirit, breathe on me
And melt this heart of stone

Ezekiel 36:26
It surely is Him – He is the one transforming my heart. I can see the change, and pray for more of it. He has led me to appreciate more simple things, simple living. He has nurtured in me an appreciation for being in the moment. He has revealed in me a desire for meaningful conversation and created a hunger for learning more about His Word. These are things counter to my original nature and there are still times when my inner self is at war. But, hallelujah – Christ is in me and continues to change me. Greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world.
Dad came over and we walked yesterday afternoon, between two of my classes. Such a warm, sunshiny fall day. Dad spoke of being “resigned” to what the doctor is likely to tell him. That hurts my heart. I don’t know how to help him, with missing mom as the holidays draw near – and not being able to be with family due to isolation. Now this mounting new twist – I don’t know how to console him. His brother is beginning to have many symptoms from his treatment and I think dad sees his path as going likewise. It is sad, dad – being so healthy, active, embracing life and relationships around him – it almost overwhelms me the thought of him sitting at home, alone, not feeling well – succumbing to this rotten disease. I know I am getting ahead of myself…but this is the “cloak of darkness” I seemed to be under last evening. I am going to try to be positive and at ease as we golf today. Again, I know I am getting way ahead of myself – but this could be the last time we golf together, ever. That sickens me. Oh Father, in Your mercy, quiet my heart and bless our time together today.
I wrote yesterday of my encounter which occurred while performing the exercise above. How I felt God and how He transformed my heart. My soul was at peace and the worries and fears subsided at least temporarily.
Prayers for Marcy and be near your phone at our usual time so we can catch up finally. I pray you are feeling better.
Prayers for Jill and Larry. Prayers Jill can put aside her fears and simply enjoy the warm weather as well as the warmth of time shared with one she loves. May Larry’s doctor not have dire news and may his brother’s suffering lessen.
Prayers for Robert and his church as they plan for the Advent worship.
Prayers for Ally, David, Amy, Ally’s cousin and her cousin’s daughter. May Ally be recovering well and with minimal discomfort, may David and Amy be empowered to support Ally and aid in her recovery. May her cousin seek the help she needs and may God guide her daughter.
Found the hymn Marcy sent yesterday on YouTube an will look for this one. God empowers you, Marcy, to type these hymns and share them. What a blessing! Sure hope you gewt all the help you need.
Prayers for Larry, very unexpected news. Hope both he and his brother have good outcomes.
So many prayers on my mind, Julie’s hands and divorce, Ally and David with health and business.,
people in my church, railroad friends, what the results of the election will bring, the pandemic, upcoming holidays, Advent and Christmas. Thankful I am alive, some new prospects for my son on the horizon, and despite a struggle with air brush painting, good results, progress made. ZOOM worship tomorrow. Thank You, Lord.
This is a very meaningful reflection for me, Sentence after sentence it relates a very deep truth. I’m not on the mountain top of many years ago, but grind it out on the valley floor. The pandemic has me cooped up, thankfully with interesting things to do and the ability to continue participating in the ministries of my church. Thankful too for the pandemic oriented package from my health care provider. Masks, hand sanitizers, and a variety of health care products. Thank You, Lord. There are new blessings every day.
Good morning, UR family, just a quick check in to let you know the heart cath went well and I got one stent. Stayed overnight in hospital and going home this morning. Thanks so much for your prayers. Love to you all. God is near. Stay safe and have a wonderful weekend.
