Words of Hope During COVID-19
Kristen E. Vincent, author of A Bead and a Prayer, and several other books, talks about her practice of repeating a short phrase over and over to comfort herself and move from head to heart knowledge.
Today’s Reflection
Praying to a God we cannot see is tremendously difficult. It’s even challenging when we pray and get what we asked for. We still are not given an explanation of how our prayers were answered, and we are left to wonder if the same thing would have happened even if we had not prayed. And worse, when our prayers are not answered as we hoped, we can’t make an appointment with God to find out why. In either case, talking to an invisible God keeps us dwelling in the land of mystery.
—Steve Harper, Talking in the Dark: Praying When Life Doesn’t Make Sense (Upper Room Books, 2007)

I feel fortunate that I have never even considered this. I KNOW He is there, I have never doubted this. I also have never had the thought mentioned…when a prayer was answered – would it have been answered without prayer. I guess I feel like when I pray – yes I am communicating with Him – but He already knows my heart and its desires. Sometimes in praying, I am hoping the Spirit conforms my desires to His will. With urgent pleadings – it is because I believe He longs to hear from me – and I cry out to Him. And where else would I go?
Yesterday was pleasant, a big portion of my sister’s back yard is shaded and we sat there in the warmth of the day. It was good that my mom’s sister and husband came – everyone seemed to enjoy the time. The skies darkened a bit on the way home, but didn’t seem like it would rain. So I watered all my newly planted flowers. Just as I finished – sure enough, the skies opened and it poured for about 15 minutes.
Dad and I are golfing this morning…it will pleasant to start – but might be a little steamy by the time we finish. Grateful to begin our summer ritual of morning golf during the week.
I definitely don’t feel I need an appointment with God because no matter what, I’m in communication with Him each day; usually multiple times. I read God’s word in the Bible or listen to it on an app. I pray often. I try to pray intercessory prayers twice a day and I am thankful to Him non-stop. I even sing to Him (when no one else can hear me). If God’s answers are long in coming, I just have to be patient. Some questions and prayers may never be answered and that’s for a reason. God’s will be done.
Hello New Every Morning family and friends!
I pray you all had a marvelous holiday. Lucy Lou 🐱 and I spent three days just a few feet from each other, while I had my mini retreat. My eyes are tired from reading and my throat is feeling rough from singing. Roxy will be here in 1/2 hour so I’ll be back later.
And these three remain: Faith, Hope and Love; and the greatest of these is LOVE!

Of course! To talk to the Lord would be a dream come true. I know He exists, that is why I can seek Him and His company. To ask Him questions, about the world, creation, life would be so wonderful.
Prayers for Jill and her father as they resume morning golfing. So good to know they spent time together yesterday with family, without fear and amongst nature.
Prayers for Marcy, Roxy and Lucy, may all be safe and well. Chai and Tazzie were rather neglected at times this weekend. Due to Tazzie’s pancreatic issues he cannot each much at each feeding so I feed him every 15 minutes throughout the day. This keeps us tethered to the house most days. But Sunday Megan and I had errands to run and got takeout which we did eat at home and we came home quickly knowing we would abandon them again for a ggod bit yesterday. The day was lovely, we also had Jill’s clouds but they provided shade and so the 90 degree weather was quite pleasant. I went for a walk and Megan sat and listened to an audiobook. It was wonderful, sigh.
Prayers for Ally and David. Stregthen Ally, dear Lord, for all the additional demands and keep her strong and healthy. Prayers for David as he continues to recover, both his memory and body as well as now his relationship with his daughter.
Prayers for Robert, for his sage words, for his wonderful sharing of his life experiences, for strong faith and for his example of steadfast, sacrificial fatherly love.
Prayers for Rick and Lc, may they both enjoy this reprieve from dire health concern’s for LC.
Prayers and thank you and good health dear UR
I have often wished I could sit down with God as I would with my parents when they were alive , while God holds my hand and share with God what is on my heart. Someone advised me to place an empty chair in front of me, sit opposite and talk to God. Though we can’t schedule an appointment like we would with a therapist, we can talk to God any time. While David was so sick, there were times when my prayers consisted of “help me, Jesus”. Those were the only words I had. In crazy times like these, I ask God to help me embrace God’s mystery and just be in God’s presence.
Yesterday I was tired and did not feel well, so David and I rested most of the day. I think each Memorial Day of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Please lift him up, as he is experiencing some situational depression due to what he has been through over the last couple of months.
Though I did not post yesterday, I read each comment and lifted up to the Lord all needs mentioned. I thank all who are lifting up David and me and thank you for your words of encouragement. Julie, , i lift up your Tazzie. My Lewis also has pancreatic issues. I pray that Tazzie continues to do well. Rick, know I am lifting up LC and pray he is soon healed. Marcy, I pray you continue to feel well and thank you for your insight into God’s heart. Robert, thank you for your service. May the Lord bless you. I pray for all of us, that we may be aware of God’s presence today. Love to all.
