New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Words of Hope During COVID-19

Lauren Burdette, author of This Life That Is Ours, tells how challenging the COVID quarantine has been for her and her family. She realized she doesn’t have to “hold it all together” for her family—that they—and we—can be strong with God’s help.

Today’s Reflection

Forgiving does not require us to forget but to remember without rancor. To remember well is to hold both the victim and the victimizer in God’s grace, with prayer for every form of healing and blessing for both. God’s project in the world is to redeem all, heal all, bless all.

—Marjorie J. Thompson, Companions in Christ: The Way of Forgiveness (Upper Room Books, 2002)

Today’s Question

Who can you remember in prayer today as you ask for God’s healing and blessing? Join the conversation.

Today’s Scripture

“The LORD is merciful and compassionate,
very patient, and full of faithful love.
The LORD is good to everyone and everything;
God’s compassion extends to all his handiwork!”

To me forgiveness begins wth God’s forgiveness. How can God’s forgiveness flow through me if I’m unforgiven? Beyond the sins I recognize, there are those I am unaware of. I can cause harm, hurt to others unintentionally. Only God truly knows my heart and its intentions. If, when, I am cleansed of my sins, I pray for my son and daughter, their Mom’s family, and everyone who knows me. I believe we all need God’s forgiveness and healing for God loved us first while we were sinners. Thank You, Lord. Your grace, mercy, and love are immeasurable.

This sentiment is so beautiful and fully possible when we rely on our Saviour to assist us with the process. Rancor – what a word. I don’t know that I have ever used it myself – but the severity of it is poignant. And yes, He asks us to lay it down…to lay it down at the Cross. Otherwise, the weight will continue to weigh us down.
To hold the victim and the victimizer in God’s grace…no better place to be. His healing is full and sufficient. Amen and amen. Father, thank You for this call, right here on this day, full obedience to You.
Father, we rejoice with Ally, for David’s 10 steps. And for their time for conversation. And her friend, who shared the day with her. Such encouragement.
Our plans to walk the estate yesterday were shared by so many other people – when we arrived – people, by the throngs, were waiting to be let in, as only so many people could be on the grounds at one time. So we detoured to a walking path a mile away and enjoyed our walk there. It was an encouragement to the both of us, to share that time together.

To remember without rancor – a beautiful description of forgiveness, one that I will try to hold onto. In some cases, to remember without rancor might only be possible with intentionally seeking God’s help.

Today we are picking up pizza and taking them to my daughter’s house. I am thankful the tension is behind us. My son-in-law is without work now, he was laid off several weeks ago and with so many software engineers looking for jobs, he is finding it more difficult to get hired as an independent consultant. I ask for your prayers for him.

Praying Jill and her father have a good day of golf and conversation, that David continues to progress and makes a full recovery in all ways with Ally’s continued faithful support, that Julie is safe and remains strong with h and Megan’s needs are met, that Robert and Erich are financially secure, that all dear UR friends are staying well and handling the uncertainty of the pandemic with faith in God’s provision for our needs from day to day. Prayers too for those you pray for, those you have named here in previous comments. Wishing all a blessed Sunday.

How gracious is God, although “He is the one who remembers no more” He, in His intimate knowledge of humankind, realizes that we cannot forget. He allows us to remember and even encourages us to remember. But without rancor and even with hope, prayers and love for both victim and victimizer. So we are to treat ourselves, the victimized, with kindness and care. How foreign for many of us, to realize that we need time and healing and self kindness.
Prayers for Robert and those he loves, may God watch over them and keep them safe and healthy and provide for their needs.
Prayers for Jill and her friend who walked and talked and renewed onw another. May Jill and Larry be able to golf today so they too may strengthen one another and themselves. May Larry’s shoulder not hurt during and after the exertion.
Prayers for Andrea and her daughter and son in law, may all find harmony together. May her SIL find a job and may the family have all they need in the meantime.
Prayers for Ally and David. I continue to rejoice at each step of David’s progress and each chance at communication between them. Prayers for Ally and her friend and the support they provide one another.
So I have been having trouble with my alarm clock so I have been using the alarm on my phone. I wear earplugs at night so it can be difficult to hear the alarm so last night I reviewed the sound options on the phone alarm. One of the options is….silent! Is it just me or does this seem futile to others. Not vibrate as that was the next choice but straight up silent. Things that make you go Huh????
Prayers and thank you and stay safe and healthy dear UR

We are all in need of God’s forgiveness. Today I pray for those who do not see a need for repentance. I pray for those who think they are beyond God’s grace. I pray for those like me, who give things to God and snatch them back. I pray for those whose hurts are so great, that forgiveness seems impossible. I lift up those who are struggling with remembering without rancor can do so and find peace in Christ. I pray that those who don’t feel hunger for God will become hungry for God. Lord, hear our prayers.
I talked to David this morning before he goes to therapy. He sounds great, but is still on oxygen. He is worried about having to come home still on O2. Respiratory therapist said they will start process of trying to wean him off today. Please pray that his need will decrease and he won’t need it when he comes home. Thank you all for continuing to lift us up.
I was glad to see that others are able to spend time outdoors. Jill, glad to hear that you found an alternative walking route with more solitude. Andrea, I continue to lift up your family and pray your SIL finds work soon. Robert, thank you for your insights into the working of forgiveness. I lift up your family as well. Love to you all, including BJ and Julie. All of you help me daily by sharing what God is doing in your lives. Have a wonderful Sunday!

    Greeting,
The reading, today was powerful, as well as your post’s. I looked up the definition of rancor, as I don’t remember using it myself. The Saint Frances prayer is one of my favorite prayers, when I’m having difficulties with forgiveness. I have also learned to ask God for a heart of forgives, as well to pray for the person i was having difficulty with. I’ve been keep up with readings and your post’s and have been keeping you all in my prayers. School has been keeping me so busy, I must admit independent study has been a difficult adjustment, and not one I was prepared for. My double English class has been so enlightening, however lots of reading researching, and writing. 17 units was a good goal but i did have to drop Biology, I will still have 12 units at the end of the Semester June 2. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers,
I’m so grateful that you are doing well. Ally it has been so good to hear that David is making so much progress. Jill, my sincere condolences on the loss of your colleague, I look forward to hearing about your golf adventure with your dad today. Wishing you all a Blessed Sunday and the week ahead.
