Words of Hope During COVID-19
Stephane Brooks, spiritual director of Emmaus Ministries at The Upper Room, tells three ways he has been creating daily life with God during the pandemic.
Today’s Reflection
When I finally heard—really understood—that God loves me, I needed time to process that message. Decades of pain, disbelief, anger, and baggage did not disappear in an instant. It took time to sit with the news of my belovedness. I had to share my questions and doubts with God. I had to offer all the reasons I thought I was unloved and unlovable and listen for God’s response. Gradually, I began to try living as someone who is beloved.

Today’s Scripture
So we have known and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.

Experiencing His love through The Church here on Earth, seeing people sacrificially give their time and care – this is evidence of Him. And I am encouraged to go and do likewise.
Lou – glad to hear you weathered the storms ok. They blew through here as well, I was mostly worried about the wind – but never lost power. It was so mild – was able to have windows and doors open – Roger likes to have the fresh air blow through his whiskers. Or at least I imagine that to be true.
The birds are doing their melodious thing very early in the morning. A luxury to remain in bed and drift in and out of early morning sleep as they raise their choruses.
Will see if dad wants to meet for a walk this afternoon when I get out of “class”.
Received an email from one of the cancer support leaders – we are going to try to Zoom meet this Sunday at our regularly scheduled time. Great idea!
Good morning to this UR family! May your day be filled with blessings from God. We must remember that God is our shelter in a storm. Psalm 91:1-2 (kjv) reads, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” Lord, I trust in Your Holy Name, I Trust in Your Holy Word. Jesus I love You and I need You and I can’t get along without You. I need Your strength to carry on. Thank You, Lord! God wants us to cling to Him. Matthew 6:11, “Give us this day, our daily bread.”(kjv) God wants us to know, He is still in control. What ever the situations are, we are remined in Isaiah 55:8-9(kjv), “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Yes, Lord! Dear friends, may the Lord bless you and keep you. I love y’all!
I can see loving acts of others as God’s love manifested on earth. But, that does not mean that I am worthy of God’s love. A fact I know in my head, but not in my heart. I have only two lifelong examples of unconditional love and so am wholly unfamiliar with this concept.
We have been inundated by ants suddenly due to the warm weather. Megan texted me during the night. I have found the reason,. They are drawn by the kitties hairball gel as it is sticky and sweet. Megan also texted that she will spray around the outside perimeter of the house today. That has succeeded in the past.
Prayers for Jill and Larry, may they enjoy a walk together today. We also experienced the wind. It was very strong and we could not open doors for fear of things blowing hither and yon. My kitties like the doors to be open so they can smell the birdies.
Prayers for BJ. I love you too!!! I love your freely sharing scripture and your Christian mentoring you provide me.
Prayers for Rick as he attends classes online, may all go well and may he do well.
Prayers for Robert, may he remain connected to his church while staying in and safe.
Prayers for Lou and the safety of her home during and from the storms of life.
Prayers for Andrea and her family as continue to shelter and enjoy walks in nature.
Prayers for April and her family and her garden, may all stay well and safe while also connecting digitally.
Prayers and thank you UR
Spring is definitely in the air. A lot of families are out walking, neighbors are talking to neighbors at an appropriate social distance, children are riding bicycles. To all outward appearances, people are relaxed and connecting more frequently and meaningfully with neighbors. Yet we are all living in a new reality, not knowing what the weeks ahead will bring.
Lowell went out to pick up Thai food for our supper yesterday, having called ahead, paid ahead, and asked for curbside delivery. When he got there, no one came out, so he went in, paid, and picked up the food. Now I am anxious he may have been exposed. I ask for your prayers.
We spent time with my grandson yesterday on Hangout. I read him a book about Easter, showing him the book’s illustrations via the video. It was amazing how quietly he listened.
Lou, I pray you get by on reduced work hours – my prayers are with you and your children. Jill, my prayers continue for ease of teaching in your virtual classrooms, and I pray too for your father, that he will have strength to cope with social isolation and his grieving the anniversary of your mother’s death. Breaking down in tears is perhaps healthy for him, an means of expressing his sorrow. Julie, I pray for you to have peaceful, safe circumstances at home and to feel God’s unconditional love. Thank you for your prayers. Bj, thank you for your powerful message of hope and faith, we are blessed by your words. Prayers for all UR friends and visitors that you are protected from Covid-19 and finding strength through faith in God in the midst of uncertainty. “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5.
I am horrified to see that when I mentioned the take-out food we picked up, when we didn’t get the curbside service we asked for, I identified the food as Thai, which is an injustice to the Thai community. We have had nothing but excellent food and service at our highly-regarded local Thai restaurant and I’m sure it was a fluke that they didn’t bring our take-out order to our car. I’m so sorry and I hope I did not offend anyone. I meant to emphasize how anxious I became when I learned Lowell went inside the restaurant, and in relating the episode, in my hurried carelessness I gave an unnecessary detail about what kind of food it was..
